Tasting notes

Our Opinion – Their Bugialla 2016 from Poggerino is a very engaging San Giovese, which immediately awakens the senses with its pairing of ripened fruits and herbaceous notes, supported by the tender, liquorice and caramel aromas of a maturation that brings it extra roundness. This powerful and lively wine has many strings to its bow, complex but sure of itself, both opulent and robust!

Press review

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) 95/100 – The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Bugialla is a total knock-out. Plush, dark and explosive, the 2016 possesses superb depth and textural richness. Super-ripe black cherry, plum, espresso, licorice, new leather and spice all flesh out in a heady, super-distinctive Riserva loaded with class and personality. The 2016 is fabulous in every way, but I especially admire its explosive energy.

The entire vinification and maceration process takes place in concrete tanks for about 55 days with manual pumping over and punching of the cap.

Maturing :

In December, the wine is placed in 20/25hl Slavonian oak barrels where malolactic fermentation takes place. After maturing for 18 months in barrels, the wine rests for 12 months in the bottle before marketing.

Description

Their 2016 Bugialla is a very engaging San Giovese, which immediately alerts the senses, with its blend of ripe fruit and herbaceous notes, supported by tender aromas of liquorice and caramel resulting from an adequately managed ageing in 20/25hl Slavonian oak casks. Loads of appealing assets complement each other in this powerful and lively wine, both complex and nervy, opulent and athletic!
